Ellis + Daniella were married December 16, 2019 at The Fives Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Destination weddings are beautiful celebrations that don’t just last the day. All week long, Ellis + Daniella got to spend quality time with their family and friends, and we felt so privileged to be a part of it.
Our day started mid-afternoon with the boys. Ellis’ groomsmen, Kyle, just happens to be one talented Barber, and was able to give him a fresh cut for his big day. Passerby’s were a little jealous.
Meanwhile, Daniella was getting ready with the help of her girls. When one of your sisters is a hairdresser, and the other a makeup artist, it kinda comes in handy. This time, I was a little jealous.
Just as the sun was beginning to set, it was time for their rooftop ceremony. Needless to say, some tears were shed.
On most wedding days, we end up photographing bridal portraits in the morning or afternoon. This time, was a little different. With only a few minutes to spare before the sun disappeared, we snuck in our quintessential beach photos, and head off to Casa del Rosa, aka ‘the building with the cool blue door’. With the help of a golf cart, we made it just in time.
Taking portraits after dark is a rarity for me, so the next series of photos was taken with the use of a flash. A little daunting but, ‘challenge accepted’. This wall of cascading lights and greenery was the perfect place to start. Ellis + Daniella shared a quiet moment before we head off to the local tequila bar. Rather than sending a drink their way, some kind folks decided to share their Cheetos with the bride and groom- no complaints there.
And finally- it was party time. Ellis + Daniella had a beautiful poolside reception. There were laughs, tears, and plenty of dancing.
All in all, one beautiful day. This destination wedding brought new challenges that forced us out of our comfort zone and helped us grow as photographers. Not only that, Ellis + Daniella made us feel at home with their friends and family. We loved every second of this warm, beautiful day in Mexico.
